Canada is located in the northern part of North America and consists of 10 provinces and 3 territories extending from the Atlanticto the Pacific Oceans. The history of Canada extends from thousands of years ago in the Paleo period to the colonization by Europeans. Even before the Europeans there were indigenous people with their own spiritual beliefs, trade routes and social organization. Much of this has been discovered by archeological investigations. The colonization began in the late 15th century with the French and British. Today Canada is known for hockey, maple syrup and cold winters.
